Trump’s July 4th mega-bash collapses into chaos as thousands ordered to evacuate the National Mall
Trump promised the biggest July 4th celebration in American history. Instead, thousands of people spent Saturday night being ordered to flee the National Mall.
Announcements blared over loudspeakers as confused crowds milled around the grass, unsure whether to leave or wait it out, according to reporting from the Daily Beast.
At one point someone said “mic check” on a stage and people who were already streaming toward the exits turned around and came back, thinking the show was on again. It was not.
The evacuation capped a brutal stretch for Trump’s Freedom 250 festivities. His Great American State Fair opened to embarrassingly sparse crowds. A dangerous heat wave forced the entire event to shut down Friday afternoon.
Washington’s National Independence Day Parade was canceled outright Saturday, with organizers citing heat index values as high as 115 degrees.
Trump spent the night posting through it on Truth Social, insisting that “storms bring luck” and vowing to deliver his speech no matter what
He also slipped in a reminder to the crowd: “I’m leaving the White House soon. “
The planned finale, a roughly 40-minute fireworks display involving some 850,000 explosives, came with its own warning. National Park Service documents cautioned the show could cause hazardous pollution and respiratory distress, and attendees were encouraged to wear face masks to watch it.
