Speaker Johnson: ‘It Is Bidenomics That Got Us Into This Mess’

Mike Johnson speaking on Fox News

House Speaker Mike Johnson criticized “Bidenomics,” arguing that high government spending under the Biden administration led to inflation and ongoing economic challenges. Speaking in an interview on Fox News with Bill Hemmer and Dana Perino, Johnson said Republican policies have helped reverse those trends by lowering inflation, reducing gas prices, and boosting economic growth.

Johnson claimed that when Republicans gained control of Congress and the White House, they moved quickly to implement their agenda. He pointed to falling inflation, gas prices at a five-year low, and economic growth exceeding 5% as evidence that those policies are working. According to Johnson, such growth had been considered unlikely, even by conservative economists, before these measures were put in place.

He also criticized Democrats over immigration policy, rejecting calls to defund or abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Johnson argued that ICE plays a vital role in enforcing the law and addressing public safety concerns, particularly after what he described as years of an open border policy. He said millions of migrants had entered the country, some posing risks to communities, and emphasized that federal law enforcement should be allowed to carry out its duties without interference.

In addition, Johnson pushed back against criticism of the Stop Insider Trading Act, particularly from Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. He said the legislation aims to ban stock trading by members of Congress to restore public trust and prevent abuse. Johnson argued that critics have misunderstood the bill and emphasized its importance in strengthening accountability within Congress.
