Republican Questions McConnell Hospital Photo After Source’s Claim
The comments add another twist to the growing debate surrounding the Kentucky senator’s health, even as his office insists he is recovering and improving.
Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., said Monday that a source told him the hospital photograph released by Sen. McConnell’s office may not have been taken during the senator’s current hospitalization.
“I saw a picture that I’m not sure I believe is actually Mitch McConnell from the hospital after what I’ve heard and what I’ve seen,” Bolling said. “Do you believe Mitch McConnell is the one who said, ‘I’m ok. Here’s the picture of my wife, Elaine Chao and I’ in that hospital bed?”
Johnson made the remarks during an appearance on The Balance on Real America’s Voice after host Eric Bolling questioned the authenticity of the image
Johnson replied that he had heard similar questions from one of his own sources but stressed that he could not verify the information.

He added that despite political disagreements over the years, he wished McConnell a full recovery.

“I certainly wish he and his family well. I hope he can recover.”
“It’s sad to watch people age no matter who that person is. I’ve served with Mitch McConnell for 16 years. Obviously, I’ve disagreed with him on a host of things, but I also know he loves this country.”
“He reveres the Senate… Mitch McConnell also loves his country, so I wish him well. I hope he recovers. I hope he can come back and contribute and vote with the president’s agenda.”
Johnson continued by reflecting on McConnell’s long Senate career
McConnell’s office has not responded publicly to Johnson’s remarks, and there is no independent evidence that the image was taken before the senator’s current hospitalization.
The photograph accompanied McConnell’s first detailed health update since he was admitted to a Washington-area hospital on June 14.
He said he did not experience a heart attack or stroke and did not suffer any broken bones.
Johnson did not identify the source of his information, provide any evidence supporting the claim or say how the source would know when the photograph was taken
He added that doctors diagnosed him with a mild case of pneumonia and said he was continuing to recover.

The release of the photo came after weeks of growing public concern and bipartisan calls for greater transparency about the 84-year-old senator’s condition.
Earlier this month, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and several Republican lawmakers urged McConnell’s office to provide more information, saying his constituents deserved a clearer picture of his health.

The latest comments from Johnson are likely to add to those questions.
For now, however, the claim that the hospital photo was taken earlier remains unverified, and McConnell’s office has not indicated that the image was anything other than a current photograph released alongside the senator’s health update.
