Would that same logic apply in reverse? Could Europe claim the right to detain Donald Trump and Melania Trump and place them before a court in The Hague?

It is about whether powerful nations can redefine the rules when it suits them. International law is meant to rest on sovereignty and mutual consent, yet actions like cross-border seizures challenge those principles and risk normalizing selective enforcement. Justice cannot be selective, and accountability cannot depend on who holds more power.

If the forced detention of political figures is condemned in one case, it must be condemned in every case. Otherwise, what the world calls justice begins to look more like power politics.
