Trump Reveals Republican Faced Terminal Diagnosis Before Emergency Surgery

Neal Dunn after heart surgery recovery

President Donald Trump revealed that Rep. Neal Dunn of Florida once faced a life-threatening heart condition that doctors believed could have ended his life within months. The disclosure came during remarks with House Speaker Mike Johnson, who described the diagnosis as severe and previously undisclosed. Despite the grim outlook, Dunn continued to report to Congress, demonstrating a strong commitment to his duties.

After learning of the situation, Trump suggested involving White House medical experts. According to Johnson, the response was immediate. Dunn was quickly taken to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where he underwent emergency surgery. The intervention appears to have significantly improved his condition.

Colleagues were struck by Dunn’s recovery when he returned to Capitol Hill. Johnson described the moment as surprising, noting that Dunn appeared revitalized and in far better health. Dunn has since expressed gratitude for the medical care he received and remains encouraged about his future.

A physician and former Army surgeon, Dunn has represented Florida’s 2nd Congressional District since 2016. He serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and holds a leadership role on its Health Subcommittee. Earlier this year, he announced plans to retire at the end of his current term.

Despite the serious diagnosis, Dunn chose to continue serving as long as possible. His experience highlights both the importance of timely medical intervention and his personal dedication to public service.
